4 Activities That Alleviate Depression


Depression is one of the most common mental health problems today. While therapy and medications can be effective in helping you feel better, these holistic approaches can also help to ease depression.

  1. Do not sleep too much. Staying in bed or taking naps throughout the day will only worsen depression and make it much harder to cope with. Try your hardest to wake up at the same time each morning and go to sleep at the same time every night. Establishing a nighttime routine will help you.
  2. Eat Well. A healthy and balanced diet will not only help the way you feel, but will also improve your thought patterns. Eat regularly and be sure to decrease the amount of added sugar you consume. Organic, whole (read: non-processed) foods are vital in order for your mind and body to work properly.
  3. Be Kind to Yourself. Treat yourself to things that are calming and improve your mood. Epsom salt baths, a meditative walk, listening to tranquil music can help you feel better. Find activities that help you unwind. Allowing yourself even 15 minutes of calming activities can make all the difference. 
  4. Practice self-acceptance. Don't let others define you. Accept yourself for you are; not who others would like you to be. There is not a single person in the world that is perfect, everyone possesses both good qualities and negative qualities. Many different traits, such as personality, background, character, make us who we are. Everyone in the world has something to offer, and everyone is entitled to respect. Even and especially you!
